Get Your Rear In Gear 5K promotes colon cancer awareness

Fox News 44 covered last weekend’s successful Get Your Year in Gear event in Colchester, Vermont.  The run/walk event brought out 300 participants including reporter Jaimarie Ely who interviewed participants about their involvement with the event.  The Get Your Rear In Gear 5K is organized by the Colon Cancer Coalition and brings people together to raise awareness about the importance of screening for colon cancer and to provide support for those affected by the disease.   Ely spoke to 5K participant Lori Brunelle about her friend Paul who lost his battle to colon cancer earlier this year.  Paul was in his forties when he died, younger than the recommended screening age of 50.  According to Ely’s report, the money raised at this year’s event will help fight colorectal cancer in Vermont.   Last year $7,000 was raised.
