Get Your Rear In Gear event updates
We have a lot of exciting events coming up in the next few months. Here is an update on some of our races.
Lafayette, Louisiana – February 28th: This is the second annual event in Lafayette. It’s on track to double in size from last year, expecting 300-400 participants, thanks in part to two great new partnerships with radio station 94.5 KSMB and the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce who really helped get the word out. A dozen teams have formed, and a great day is expected!
Raleigh, North Carolina – March 7th: This first time event has over 225 people already signed up to participate. There are nearly 20 teams set up to participate, and our presenting Sponsor, Digestive HealthCare, is leading the way with 26 members with many more workers coming out to volunteer on race day. A special thanks to survivor Susan Falco for her willingness to share her story for local press.
New Braunfels/Central Texas – March 15th: The 3rd annual event in Texas makes it home this year in Landa Park in New Braunfels and adds a 10K Run to the 5K run and walk. Bryan Joyce, a colon cancer survivor, is captaining a team and has been helping to plan this year’s event, especially the great picnic to follow.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – March 22nd: This brand new 5K Run and 2 Mile Remembrance walk is sprinting towards becoming the biggest new event for the Coalition in 2009. Already close to 400 participants have registered, and that includes over 30 teams. We are grateful for the support of so many terrific sponsors including three great hospital systems, Jefferson University Hospital, Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania and Fox Chase Crozer-Keystone Cancer Partnership.
Twin Cities, Minnesota – April 19th: The 5th Annual event in the Twin Cities is off to its fastest start, with nearly 400 registrants and 45 teams already established. We are happy to welcome back presenting sponsor Minnesota Gastroenterology, along with Colon and Rectal Surgery Associates and Vital Images and to welcome new medical sponsors Regions Hospital and Park Nicollet Cancer Center. Off to a fast fundraising lead is our top individual fundraiser from 2008, Lorrie Wilson, and new team Baty Sisu who has already raised over $2,000 in donations.
Chicago, Illinois – April 25th: A first time 5K run and walk in Chicago has a terrific location in Lincoln Park in Downtown Chicago. We are grateful for the support of Rush University Medical Center and Pentax in leading the way in sponsorship.
Look for registration to open shortly for events in Rochester and Central, Minnesota; Colchester, Vermont; Central Ohio, San Francisco and Alexandria, Virginia.
