KARE 11 fitness expert Chris Freytag recommends Get Your Rear in Gear 5K
With less than a week to go before the Twin Cities hosts it’s fifth annual Get Your Rear In Gear 5K Run /Walk, KARE 11 fitness expert Chris Freytag reminded viewers to register and get involved. “Whether your goal is to improve your fitness level, a sense of community or a sense of personal accomplishment, training for a race is a great way to jump start your fitness,” said Freytag on her KARE 11 Sunrise segment. “What better way to get started than this weekend. Sunday, April 19th is the 5th annual ‘Get Your Rear in Gear Colon Cancer Coalition 5k Run’ at Southdale Center in Edina.”
Kristin Tabor, founder and president of the Colon Cancer Coalition expects well over 4000 participants at the event. “This was and always has been a collaborative effort on behalf of people who care about people,” says Tabor. The popular Get Your Rear In Gear 5K Run/Walk is presented in cities across the country but had it’s inaugural run at Lake Harriet five years ago. It was the largest first time 5K in the state of Minnesota with over 1,200 participants at the first race. Since that time, the event has moved to Southdale to accommodate larger crowds.
Online race registration is available until Wednesday April 15. You may also register in person at Southdale Center on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday (click here for more times and location) or on race day when registration begins at 7am.
