Lee Conklin, news anchor for 13 Action News in Toledo, Ohio recently shared his personal story of losing his mother to colon cancer as part of an interview on Conklin and Company on Sunday, May 20. Conklin interviewed Deb Ross with the Lucas County (Ohio) Colorectal Cancer Coalition about the importance of being screened for the disease at age 50. Conklin will be running in the Get Your Rear in Gear Toledo 5K in honor of his mother who passed away 7 years ago.

Ross stressed the importance of colonoscopy screening in those over 50 and that nearly 60% of the deaths could be prevented with the screening. She invited Toledo residents to visit the Lucas County Colorectal Cancer Coalition website to learn about financial assistance available for colon cancer screenings for the under and uninsured.
