Vermont celebrates success in fight for colorectal cancer legislation
As Minnesotans wait to hear if Governor Tim Pawlenty’s unallotment process will affect the Colorectal Cancer Screening Act, colon cancer advocates in Vermont are celebrating news that they have become the 27th state to mandate insurance coverage for the full range of colorectal cancer screenings. Governor Jim Douglas signed the legislation on May 29th, 2009. The bill becomes effective October 1, 2009 and limits patient out-of-pocket-costs to 100 for a colonoscopy, according to an American Cancer Society news release.
Colchester Vermont will be hosting the Colon Cancer Coaltion’s Get Your Rear in Gear 5K Run/Walk on August 16th at Bayside Park in Mallet’s Bay. Last year’s event brought out over 200 enthusiastic supporters who shared the afternoon with family and friends and coworkers.
