Four biggest myths of health care reform
After a weekend honoring the work of the late Senator Edward Kennedy, Congress is back at work debating key health care reform issues. Media coverage of Republican opposition has been extensive. So, in an effort to clarify misconceptions about his planned approach, President Obama used his weekly address to “debunk” the most pervasive myths about health care reform.
- Health insurance for illegal aliens. Not true.
- Mandated coverage for abortions. The current ban on using tax dollars for abortions would not be affected.
- Death panels that would make and enforce end of life decisions. Obama calls these claims “phony” and finds the notion offensive.
- Government takeover of health care. According to the President, “if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. If you like your private health insurance plan, you can keep your plan. Period.”
