Health care reform enters critical phase and needs your support
The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network is rallying this week to gather support for health care reform. President Obama has asked for a reform bill to be on his desk by October. The first bill was recently introduced for congressional debate and the next several months may determine the future of health care in our country. ACS CAN is fighting for a bill that would:
- stop insurers from using pre-existing conditions, like cancer, as a reason to deny or limit coverage
- ensure that people with a chronic or catastrophic disease, like cancer, are not financially ruined by the cost of care
- place reasonable limitations on premiums and other patient out-of pocket costs
- abolish annual and lifetime caps on dollars spent or access to services
- place much greater emphasis on prevention
Because of the holiday recess, legislators are at their home offices this week. As part of a grassroots movement, the Cancer Action Network has created a printable flyer that can be delivered to your congressperson’s local office to show your support of these vital and necessary protections for those in need of health care. The flyer reminds legislators that sixty percent of all cancer deaths could be prevented with proper access to screening and preventative care.
Be sure that legislators hear your voice by contacting your congressperson today.
