Health care reform victory helps cancer survivors

AMA announces support of reform (video below)
Last night’s historic vote for health care reform was a solid victory for cancer survivors. A middle of the night vote in the U.S. Senate moved health care reform forward with several key components in tact. Of interest to cancer survivors is the issue of insurance coverage for those with pre-existing conditions. As the bill now stands, insurance providers would no longer be allowed to deny coverage based on pre-existing conditions. Cancer survivors who move, change jobs, change or lose insurance coverage for any reason will not have to fear losing their life savings if their cancer comes back. Additionally the legislation would eliminate lifetime limits on health care coverage.
Based on these and many other factors, the American Medical Association announced support of the health care reform bill. In this video, AMA Association President-Elect Dr. Cecil Wilson, M.D. announces the organization’s support for passage of the amended health care reform bill. The next vote is expected Tuesday morning. Democrats hope to pass the bill before Christmas.
