President Obama held a town hall meeting today in Green Bay, Wisconsin to kick off  his campaign for health care reform.  According to an Associated Press report, the president plans to spend $1.5 trillion over the next decade to provide health care coverage to uninsured Americans.  Obama referenced the success of health care initiatives in Wisconsin as he discussed his hopes for a national overhaul of the health care system.  Wisconsin has been trying to pass it’s own healthcare plan called Healthy Wisconsin which would provide healthcare to residents not covered by another plan.   Currently, Wisconsin offers high quality health care at costs lower than the national average.

President Obama is listening to the voices of concerned Americans.  According to the AP report, “the president’s speech in Green Bay would contain no new policies, but would instead put Obama — and the traveling White House press corps — in position to hear directly from people who are affected in the existing system. Those stories, Obama’s political aides said, would be key to selling the final product.”

Congress begins work on health care reform today.  President Obama has asked for a health care reform bill by October of this year.  Now is the time to get your voice heard!   The American Cancer Society has organized a campaign to gather support.  Click here to add your name to the list of Americans whose voices Obama will hear.
