The exercise cost of a Dairy Queen treat

dog_in_cupcropHave you ever wondered how many miles you’d have to run to burn off the calories in a Peanut Buster Parfait?  How many hours on the elliptical erases the damage in a DQ Blizzard?  Well, here are the ugly answers.  The figures below estimate activity requirements for both a 120 pound and 170 pound exerciser.  Enjoy!

Medium vanilla chocolate dipped cone:  470 calories, 22 grams fat
Run (10 minute mile) = 1.7 hours 1.2 hours
Bike (13 mph) = 2 hours, 1.5 hours
Elliptical = 2.5 hours, 1.75 hours

Medium Mint Oreo Blizzard: 740 calories, 25 grams fat
Run = 2.75 hours, 2 hours
Bike = 3 hours, 2.2 hours
Elliptical = 3.85 hours, 2.75 hours

Peanut Buster Parfait 700 calories, 30 grams fat,
Run = 2.5 hours, 1.8 hours
Bike = 3 hours, 2 hours
Elliptical = 3.6 hours, 2.5 hours

If you don’t have hours to spend at the gym burning off the DQ indulgence, try jumping rope several times a day.  Several bouts of jumping throughout the day can burn up to 700 calories.
