Colon cancer tied to genetics

At least one in 10 colon-cancer cases might be attributed to a previously unknown genetic predisposition to the disease, according to new research led by scientists at Ohio State University’s Comprehensive Cancer Center. It’s the first study to link this particular gene — transforming growth factor beta receptor 1 — to colorectal cancer, and it might help doctors and geneticists find out who is most likely to develop the disease.
